Industry Insights: Riza Altunergil VP of Commerce, ERGIL

Ergil Tank“To utilize gas as the prominent fuel, countries need to invest more on pipeline construction and maintenance as well as LNG terminals for storage and distribution which would keep pace with the rapid increase in production.”

Today Tank World talks to Riza Altunergil VP of Commerce at ERGIL one of the leading engineering companies specialized in design, engineering and manufacturing of pressure vessels, storage tanks and storage tank equipment. Based in Turkey ERGIL has offices in the U.A.E., Azerbaijan and Singapore and is a rapidly growing company.

Luke Upton (LU): As an introduction, please tell us a little about your role at ERGIL?

Riza Altunergil (RA):  “As the VP of Commerce, my role at ERGIL is to actively managing the marketing and sales strategies of ERGIL products and services working in conjunction with ERGIL’s Sales, Marketing and Product Development teams as well as the representatives, distributors and customers of Owner Operating companies and Engineering Procurement and Construction companies all around the world.”

LU: Thanks, and what are some of the key trends within the industry you are seeing at the moment?

RA: “Although the renewable energy is expected to double in 10 years, oil and gas is still the leading source of energy providing 75 percent of the global energy needs. Therefore it is inevitable that the oil and gas industry would grow further with the driving demand and increased investments all across the globe. Operations safety, product losses, environmental pollution and emerging government regulations for environment protection and safety of communities have started to become a great concern for the tank owners. Safety, economic and the environmental benefits are highly recognized in order to prevent injuries, loss of life and revenue as well as to limit the environmental impact of operations. Therefore, we have started to put emphasis on such concerns and guide the operators for necessary precautions by encouraging their compliance. Among our products, ERGIL StorageTech™’s internal floating roofs and breather vents are designed to limit the product loss and emissions to the environment by minimizing evaporation as well as protecting the tanks against the excessive pressure. Also, StorageTech™ flame arresters are specially designed and carefully manufactured to prevent catastrophic damages by stopping and extinguishing flame through the flammable vapor under emergency conditions.”

LU: I understand that ERGIL underground storage tanks, something which a lot of companies don’t develop. Can you tell us some more about this part of the business?

RA: “Yes, of course.  ERGIL has capacity to design, fabricate and construct such unique underground reservoir storage tanks, whose main purpose is to serve to the environment and the communities by preventing harmful oil leaks.  As an example for the under storage tanks, I have to mention the BP’s Kodiana emergency drain-down facility in Georgia as a reference of ERGIL’s projects. Emergency drain-down facility has been designed and built with the purpose of preventing oil leaks to the environment and to meet the safety requirements in case of any raptures in main pipeline. Basically in the event of a rupture or technical problem the oil is channeled into the underground tank until the rapture is repaired, when the oil is safely be pumped back to the pipeline.”

LU: What are some of the key challenges facing the industry at the moment?

RA: “I believe that with requirement of billions of dollars of investments to meet the increasing production and global demand, lack of gas infrastructure from exploration and transportation to storage is one of the key challenges. To utilize gas as the prominent fuel, countries need to invest more on pipeline construction and maintenance as well as LNG terminals for storage and distribution which would keep pace with the rapid increase in production. Our strategic planning involves anticipating the future of energy sources and investments where we could offer our products and solutions such as ERGIL pipeline equipment, LNG tanks, Cryogenic Tanks and Mobile Transport Cryogenic Tanks.”

LU: What’s the biggest opportunity that the industry has?

RA: “We can see that more and more countries and operators have been implementing regulations for energy-sufficient production and operations through legal and voluntary compliances. ERGIL’s main focuses are to train and motivate our workers, suppliers, partners and customers to apply environmental regulations and conserving resources to improve their environmental commitment in all operations through our products and services, which help our customers contend with reducing environmental footprint. Increased awareness is a great opportunity for ERGIL in its growth as a global citizen.

LU: And finally, it was great to work with Ergil at Tank World in April in Dubai, why are events like Tank World important?

RA: “With the communications technology there has been a shift in the way we communicate causing the lack of face to face and interpersonal communication. It is getting more and more difficult to personally connect to the people as we do when we are face-to-face. At ERGIL we greatly appreciate events such as Tank World where as a team we will have a unique opportunity to meet with the leading industry professionals and decision makers. I believe Tank World Expo will be a great platform for ERGIL to showcase our products and increase ERGIL’s product knowledge, while leading to higher brand equity. This event will enable us to have face to face conversations, interactive meetings and personal connections. I strongly believe that Tanks Storage Expo’s ability to bring together more than 1000 leading tank storage experts the Middle East would be one of a kind event.
